We got the job!

After two rounds of interviews, and what has seemed like around a month of waiting, we finally found out that we have been chosen to take on the role of Community Coordinators within the apartment complex that we are currently living in. This has been a huge answer to prayer financially, as this job will credit us with a substantial reduction in our monthly rent. It is a job that I should be able to manage largely on my own - even with the kids. Furthermore, this role would not violate my visa restrictions which prohibit me from gaining employment.

Our appointment as Community Coordinators also means that we will be changing apartments. Fortunately, it will not be a big move. Actually it's just across the courtyard. Our new apartment will be virtually identical, except that we will be on the ground floor, and have doors leading out to the courtyard! So it's 'goodbye' to the noisy freeway that we currently overlook, and 'hello' to a great barbecue and the complex playground, both just steps away.

From what we have been able to gather, the primary function of this role seems to be to help build 'community' - organising social events, welcoming new arrivals, helping manage conflicts or issues arising from living in close community and there even seems to be a more pastoral side to this role. The more practical aspect of the job seems to be things like, liaising between fellow residents and the housing office, publishing a monthly newsletter, opening up apartments for those who for some reason do not have their key card on them and other general 'house keeping' duties. It's estimated to take up an average of 12 hours per week.

We will be assuming our role as Community Coordinators as of July 1, but the apartment will not become available until July 8.
